What a popular word all over the world. Some people think that happiness should be an option when they are born and if the option is not activated, they believe that they will never find happiness. Others act as if they are on a constant high, either happy or sad. Well, as most of us know that happiness is not a “given” and is not an option which our parents can activate at birth. Researches confirm that genetics has a certain influence over our general happiness level. As human beings, we do have or don’t have this precious feeling present in our lives. Can you guess who controls it then? You are right, We do have a lot of control on our happiness. Even if we are born with a certain state of mind, either happy or sad, we can change this. As events occur in our lives, we can become sad or happy or we can depress a bit or a lot. But it is up to us to get up, shake ourselves up and bring happiness back into our lives. It is well worth noting that money does not necessarily bring happiness. There are much stronger core values which can really impact the way we feel Let’s define what it is to be happy: Let’s define what it means to be happy:
Let’s have a look at a few “happiness Quotes”
Happiness is like a kite; if it’s attached to a person or thing, your happiness goes away when that person or thing goes away. But if it is attached to you, you will have to lose yourself first to lose your happiness.
Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present.
Some days are just bad days, that’s all. You have to experience sadness to know happiness, and I remind myself that not every day is going to be a good day, that’s just the way it is!
Dita Von Teese
Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.
Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.
Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony.
And there is a multitude of other Quotes relating to happiness. Of the quotes mentioned above, the ones that I find the most descriptive of who we are as human beings are the one from John Rohn and Denis Waitley and especially the one from the Dalai Lama.

THEN, WHAT IS HAPPINESS ABOUT?
We can define happiness as a state of mind. And this state of mind, either happy or sad (or not being happy), can be developed over a certain period, caused by a very wonderful event or situation or suddenly by euphoria or a trauma. If we extrapolate on Thomas Merton’s Quote on Happiness, we can say that for us to be happy (to have happiness) we need to feel good about ourselves. And this good feeling, although a certain level of it is genetic, we have to work at it and make the constant and necessary adjustments within our close surrounding (family and friends), in our work environment and also in our social environment to be able to reach our Happiness level. In other words, It is finally up to us to have Happiness within ourselves or not. I fully agree that under certain circumstances, it is not easy at all to make the required adjustments.
But It is up to us to TAKE ACTION or JUST GIVE UP.
What can we do?
If you look around you, you certainly know and notice people who are constantly on a Happiness cloud; others, some time, and another group, always unhappy or Sad. Do you think that the “Happy ones” never have problems or complex situations in their lives? Do you think that they smile all the time? We all know too well that every one of us hits rough bumps on the road, have arguments with other people, etc. But if you pay more attention to these “Happy” ones, you will notice that they do not have pity for themselves. If they hit a wall, they find a way to go over or through it.
They find a “Solution”…….and please remember this:
“There is always a solution”
I have noticed during my professional and private life that when some people have a certain “Problem”, it really throws them off. These people can be unhappy, depressed and antisocial for a short time, or for a long time without solving the issue. These situations result in a lot of confusion and panic around them. The main reason for this is that these same people strictly focus on the “Problem“, and they continue living over the SAD Cloud. They do not focus on the “Solution” to the “Problem”. I agree that many people have never been exposed to any type of problem-solving training. I will not here give training on “Problem Solving Process” but I will do that shortly, in a future post on GoSelfGrowth.com so that next time you meet a complex situation, you can focus on a “Solution” and find it.
Among the Quotes stated above which one do you think is the most applicable to all of us?
